Overview
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is one of the busiest airports in the world and the main airport for the Los Angeles area.
History
The airport began in 1928 as Mines Field and took the name Los Angeles International Airport in 1949. Its space-age Theme Building, completed in 1961, became a symbol of the city.
Today
LAX is in the middle of a large modernization program, including new roadways and an automated people mover. The airport, its hotels and its cargo businesses employ many people, including in aviation and hotel security.
