Overview
The Gaslamp Quarter is a historic district of Victorian-era buildings in downtown San Diego, now known for restaurants, bars and nightlife.
History
The area grew from Alonzo Horton's "New Town" development, which began in 1867. In the 1880s Wyatt Earp ran saloons in the district. After decades of decline, it was restored beginning in the 1970s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today
The Gaslamp is busy at night and during events at nearby Petco Park and the convention center, with heavy demand for venue and crowd security.
