Overview
Hilo Bay is the harbor and waterfront of Hilo, the largest town on Hawaii Island, lined with parks, Japanese gardens and Coconut Island.
History
Tsunamis in 1946 and 1960 devastated Hilo's bayfront. Rather than rebuild in the danger zone, the town turned much of the shore into parks, including Liliuokalani Gardens.
Today
The bayfront parks, farmers market and harbor are the center of daily life in Hilo.
