Overview
Joe Pool Lake is a reservoir on Mountain Creek in the southern Dallas–Fort Worth area, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and water supply.
History
The dam, on Mountain Creek and Walnut Creek, was completed in December 1985, and the lake filled by 1989. It is named for Joe Pool, a congressman from the Oak Cliff area of Dallas who championed the project before his death in 1968.
Today
Lynn Creek Park and Loyd Park in Grand Prairie offer camping, swimming and boat ramps, and the lake is busy on summer weekends.
