Overview

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the busiest airports in the world by passenger traffic and the largest hub of American Airlines. By land area it is larger than the island of Manhattan, and it spans parts of several cities, including Irving.

History

Dallas and Fort Worth agreed to build a shared regional airport in the 1960s, and DFW opened in 1974. American Airlines moved its headquarters to the area in the late 1970s, and DFW became its main hub.

Today

DFW has multiple terminals linked by the Skylink train, and it continues to expand. The airport and the nearby logistics, cargo and hotel businesses are among the region's largest sources of employment, including aviation and hotel security work.
