Overview

The Buddy Holly Center is a museum in Lubbock dedicated to the life and music of Buddy Holly, along with other West Texas musicians and visual arts.

History

Buddy Holly was born in Lubbock in 1936 and became one of rock and roll's early stars before he died in a plane crash in 1959, remembered as "The Day the Music Died". The center opened in 1999 in a restored railroad depot and is known for its giant sculpture of Holly's trademark glasses.

Today

The center, together with the nearby Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza and the West Texas Walk of Fame, anchors Lubbock's Depot District of music venues and restaurants.
