Overview
The Port of Oakland is one of the main container ports on the West Coast, handling trade for Northern California and the Central Valley. The port authority also runs Oakland's airport.
History
The port was established in 1927, and in the 1960s it was among the first West Coast ports to invest heavily in container terminals.
Today
Container terminals, rail yards and warehouses line the waterfront, and access to regulated terminals generally requires a TWIC card.
