Overview
The Treasure Coast is the stretch of Florida's Atlantic coast north of Palm Beach County, covering Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties.
History
The region is named for the Spanish treasure fleet that was wrecked by a hurricane off this coast in 1715. Coins and artifacts from the wrecks still wash ashore or are recovered by divers.
Today
Port St. Lucie is the region's largest city, and the area has grown quickly with new neighborhoods, retail centers and healthcare facilities.
