Overview

The Fort Worth Water Gardens is a public park of terraced concrete pools and fountains designed by the architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee. It is known for the sound and movement of water falling down its stepped walls.

History

The park opened in 1974, funded by the Amon G. Carter Foundation. It has three main pools: the Active Pool, where water rushes down steep terraces to a small pool below; the Aerating Pool; and the Quiet Pool. Its futuristic look led to its use as a filming location for the 1976 film Logan's Run. After drownings in 2004, the Active Pool was made shallower and safety measures were added.

Today

The Water Gardens sits beside the Fort Worth Convention Center and is a popular stop for visitors and photographers.
